Global Freight & Duty Director

Mission of the Role:

To ensure the seamless, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods across the Visteon supply chain, minimizing delays and costs while adhering to global trade regulations. This role focuses on selecting the most efficient freight routes and suppliers, ensuring accurate and timely customs declarations, and enabling the swift clearance of goods without penalties.

Key Objectives of this Role:

  1. Strategic Development and Implementation:
    1. Develop and execute global freight and transportation strategies to optimize cost efficiency, delivery timelines, and compliance with international and local regulations.
    2. Design and continuously improve the lowest landed cost network configuration, incorporating Free Trade Zones (FTZs), bonded warehouses, and country-specific regulations.
    3. Negotiate and manage contracts, terms, and conditions with freight carriers, brokers, warehouses, and consultants to ensure favorable rates and service levels.
  2. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation:
    1. Ensure all trade operations meet country-specific import and export regulations and that compliance standards are understood and upheld across the organization.
    2. Assess and mitigate risks associated with international logistics, including geopolitical disruptions, natural disasters, and port congestion.
    3. Implement contingency plans to address unforeseen events impacting freight and customs operations.
    4. Ensure adherence to environmental, health, safety, and security standards for transporting goods.
  3. Operational Excellence and Team Leadership:
    1. Manage and oversee the global Freight and Customs team, including internal staff and 3rd party service providers such as carriers, warehouses, and customs brokers.
    2. Develop, manage, and optimize the freight and duty budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with organizational goals.
    3. Monitor performance metrics for service providers and ensure operational targets are met.
    4. Lead internal audits related to freight and customs to comply with internal standards and customer requirements, implementing corrective actions, as necessary.

Key Year One Deliverables:

  1. Develop a comprehensive global freight and duty strategy.
  2. Identify opportunities to leverage Free Trade Zones (FTZs), bonded warehouses, and duty relief programs to achieve the lowest landed cost.
  3. Establish and monitor freight and duty budgets aligned with organizational financial objectives.
  4. Evaluate current freight carriers, customs brokers, and warehouses to optimize supplier selection based on cost, service levels, and reliability.
  5. Ensure full compliance with international trade regulations and customs requirements, including accurate declarations and adherence to local legislation.

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

  1. Education:
    - Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  2. Experience:
    - 8+ years of experience in global logistics, customs, and freight management within a multinational organization.
  3. Knowledge:
    - Proven experience managing import/export compliance and adhering to international trade regulations (e.g., INCOTERMS, HTS classification, customs valuation, and FTZ operations).
  4. - Track record in negotiating contracts with freight carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers to secure favorable rates and service levels.
  5. - Deep understanding of global customs regulations, import/export compliance, and trade operations.
  6. Skills:
    - Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
    - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
    - High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    - Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
    - Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    - Expertise in automotive or electronics manufacturing supply chains is a plus.
    - Experience with ERP systems, demand forecasting tools, and logistics management software.
